SURGICAL TECHNICIAN

Objective: The Surgery Technician Associate Degree Program is designed to provide a combination of academic theory through the general education courses and technical skills through the technical courses to provide graduates with the skills to competently assist doctors and other staff in the health field in a surgical setting. The student will learn how to provide essential patient care before, during, and after surgery. Classroom theory and laboratory hands-on training will be supplemented with clinical and externship experiences to make for a comprehensive curriculum of study.

1. Provide the hands-on training necessary to prepare students for entry-level positions.
2. Encourage a sense of commitment, responsibility, and self-motivation so that each student entering the work place will have the "personal strengths" to accompany their technical and problem solving skills.
3. Maintain an atmosphere of professionalism, thereby setting a standard and creating an environment for students to emulate.
4. Ensure that each student enjoys time and space within the classroom setting, so that each student will have an opportunity to perform and participate under the direct supervision of a qualified instructor.
